How these totals are calculated
Each month includes its first and last day. We count Monday through Friday and remove the official holiday dates listed for the selected calendar. A date is removed only once, even if it is both a weekend and a holiday. Personal leave, company closures and local arrangements are not included.
2027 has 261 weekdays and 12 observed federal holiday dates, leaving 249 business days. The extra observed date is 31 December 2027: New Year’s Day 2028 falls on Saturday, so its federal observance is on the preceding Friday. This date belongs in the 2027 calculation even though OPM lists it in the 2028 holiday schedule.
